Construction of new road bridge

A particularly complex project with Capstan being employed by the developer as Principal Contractor to demolish the existing stone bridge and construct a wider precast concrete bridge, within an existing occupied residential street.

The works required liaison with Somerset County Council, service providers, local residents, designers and the Environment Agency to ensure protection of the water course, minimise disruption to the neighbours and deliver the project to a high standard and within a reasonable timescale. This project required contiguous piling to provide a safe and structurally sound abutment, interlocking sheet piling to provide a safe working environment for operative working below the adjacent river water level and provide sufficient access for local residents. The successful completion of this project now allows for the wider new housing scheme to be progressed with suitable infrastructure in place.
